Ormankoy Community Centre
Ormankoy Community Centre is a public building located in Istanbul, Turkiye. A wooden shell defines the character of the community centre, while wide glazed facades open the indoor spaces to the surrounding forest. A steel frame structure creates the distinctive form and rests on concrete beams spanning over 18 metres above the pool space. Two biological ponds on different levels cover 4000 square metres, and hard chemicals were avoided to protect wildlife and pets. The wooden cladding is expected to change colour and texture over time, like the seasons of the forest.
Ormankoy Community Centre Nature by DAP Yapı was selected as a creative illustration of architectural design by the A' Design Award & Competition. Ormankoy Community Centre Nature was awarded the Platinum A' Design Award in Architecture, Building and Structure Design in 2021. The A' Architecture, Building and Structure Design Award is an international, juried, academic and meritocratic design recognition program which celebrates excellent design of skyscrapers, museums, residential buildings, commercial complexes, educational institutions, religious structures, infrastructure designs, landscaping projects and more.
